Was the engine builder familiar with the engine ? maybe a case of what was in the gasket kit so he fitted it ? have to admit i had ask for a later seal as i originaly given the old rope type as well. Dont forget to put some gasket goo under it or it may spin round a little and still leak

Hi Rob yea Mate He had A Engine Rebuilders for 30yrs but I think your Correct. It was a Combination of Maybe his Ageing Memory and Rope Seal in the Kit.To Use a Rope Seal u must have a Hatched Crank. All good now but.Image
