Swapping K Frames

by MotorVated » Tue Aug 09, 2016 11:37 am

G'day all,

In the process of swapping a K Frame from a donor car onto mine which was badly rusted & not worth repairing. Still had to do extensive repairs to the donor one, but was a better option then mine.

Has anyone had any problems with rego, i.e. it will now have a different chassis number?

I have a receipt for the donor car so hoping that would suffice, but thinking i should try & keep the numbers the same to avoid any dramas later on.

I have cut a section from the original K Frame with the chassis number & could replace it onto the donor K Frame, but worried that might look more like a rebirth job on closer inspection.

In hind sight i should've repaired the original inner guard with the chassis number & swapped it onto the donor K Frame, but too late now as it's at the tip after a shed clean out. Lesson learned there!

what do you think, should i be concerned?

Not really but nice to have the original numbers. You should be able to do a clean butt weld and grind back so it's not detectable.

I'm having same issue and need new kframe.
Can I unpick inner engine & weld to new kframe?
Simple in comparison?
Any hits, ideas, history?
