'63 EJ sedan

by BennyWA » Sun Oct 22, 2017 12:42 am

G'day all,

New member with a new toy to relive my old GMH memories lol...
May restore it slightly, or I may not!

I need to sort some things out first though, the boot has no floor, what do I do, where do I go to get one or do I make one? I'm a cabinetmaker by trade but would prefer original!

Are you saying the floor is rusted out and got need a new steel section? Or you simply don’t have anything covering the floor?

Hi Ray, no rust at all, just no sub floor or vinyl/carpet you can see the spare etc. Should've explained myself a little better! I assume it obviously needs a timber cover to cover the spare wheel over which you'd lay a vinyl boot liner. Can you by these because I can't find them anywhere..

i think there were no more than a piece of masonite cut to shape, if they actually had anything at all
i cant actually remember any of my old cars having anything other than the vinyl mat with a thick piece if underfelt on the back of it where the spare was

Martin at obsolete auto rubber has a lot of the gmh moulds for the early floor coverings. Top notch product. Old school when it comes to sales etc. try google.

Looks like a nice base to start with Benny , as Clay said or rare spares , ebay etc have the boot liners and will give you an idea of what sort of prices people are asking ... shop around as quality and price can very a lot.

Yep, EJs had a masonite sheet to cover the spare wheel............sort of a funny tear drop shape.
Should be very easy to replicate. You just need to find a template.
Had a cutout in the middle to hold down the sheet onto the wheel. A flange similar to this was used:

Can certainly recommend Obsolete Auto Rubber for the vinyl boot mat.
Or you could get this (probably sourced from OAR anyway):

Cheers all, yeah I realise I can source the liner online. I really wanted to get an original boot floor but it seems I'll have to try and find someone here in WA with an original which I can replicate.
