on my sedan, when stripping back to restore...

on just about every bolt on panel ( all but one guard i think) we found the number "44" stamped. different general location each time.

i think i posed something about it on this site once before and the general agreement was production line quality checks or tooling checks...

for that reason i guess i have a matching numbers car... lol

on the other hand it could be nothing. i don't really care much for speculation so i don't care...

Found these markings on my EH Panelvan front cross-member:

From what I can make out it says:
742xxxxxx
EH 2104 xxxxxxx
2104-2106 xxx

My parts manual suggest the 2104-2106 cross member should be 7429708 if equipped with 2-1/4" brakes or 7423443 if equipped with 1-3/4" brakes.
The fourth digit after 742 doesn't appear to be 9 or 3. Looks like a 6 or an 8.

Rgds.

A lot of heaters I've rebuilt have a similar stamp on the alloy flap. The Special heaters were never fitted at the factory. Once the car was ordered, the dealer would have the heater installed prior to delivery to the new owner. I would assume they would also be available from the dealer as a kit to install at home. I have a NOS kit but will need to look at the flap for the stamp.

Hi ,yes the how and why is quite interesting ... my eh is a prem ... i though the heater was installed at manufacture or maybe i have a friday car. When i was rebuilding my gauges there was a same date on the fuel gauge as well presumably put there by and instrument fitter as it was on the inside of the gauge assemblie not the outside case .. been trying to find the pic i took but it was a while ago now.

cheers, Rob
