EH Brake Madter cylinder

by Elrobbo » Sat Jun 10, 2017 1:11 pm

Will be replacing a standard plastic bottle body brake master cylinder on EH auto. Any tips in how to replace it. Do I need to pre-bleed the unit before I put it in the car? What's better dot3 or dot4 brake fluid?
Appreciate any comments

Bench bleed it before installing to remove air bubbles from the master.

Dot4 is the same as Dot3, just higher boiling point (better). Dot 5.1 is higher still. They are all glycol based, and compatable.

Dot5 is the different one - its made of silicone, and imcompatable with Dot 3, 4 or 5.1. To use Dot 5, you need to change all the system out (pull apart, new rubbers in master/slave, clean, and then use Dot5). The only benefit of Dot5 is that it does not absorb water - needs less periodic changeouts.

Easiest is to use Dot3, 4 or 5.1 unless you are doing a full rebuild.
